PhotoMath is free to download and does not contain any adverts, in-app purchases or external links. The developers are planning to add new features in due course. PhotoMath currently supports basic arithmetic, fractions, decimals, linear equations and several functions like logarithms. Where this has been an issue I have simply keyed the equation I want to check into my computer and then scanned it from the screen. It can then be difficult to get the camera close enough to have just the equation you want in the scan box. The only difficulty I have encountered is if two or three equations are close together on a page. Brilliant! The app is not able to read handwriting but copes very well with most forms of text. In this way they can quickly see where it was they went wrong. If they have made an error, students can press the steps button to reveal the full step-by-step solution. Just as many students will tap a sum into a calculator after working on long a multiplication problem, they can now use PhotoMath to ensure they have completed equations correctly. PhotoMath could obviously be used by students to cheat in exams and class tests but it is also a wonderful way to check your answers. Not only that but it will also detail the steps necessary for arriving at this solution and does so in a clear and very easy to follow format. All you have to do is point the camera on your tablet or smartphone towards a mathematical expression, and within seconds PhotoMath will display the correct result. PhotoMath is the world's first camera calculator. In fact, after having used it for a few months I am still amazed at how well it works. This is the perfect way for someone who struggles with math to check their work, and then if they got it wrong, understand why.This is an incredible app and one that really has to be seen to be believed. You simply take a picture of the math equation, it solves it, and then gives you the option to break down the equation into steps. Sometimes a little reassurance and support are all that is needed to help a person with dyscalculia complete their math work. Often times people with Dyscalculia struggle with remembering the steps to solve an equation. The step-by-step explanations help me check my kids' homework for accuracy and the app clarifies concepts and improves their independent problem-solving abilities. I give this app five stars because of how useful it is when I can’t ask my teacher for help. It would be ideal for someone like an auditor who needs to dictate simple equations for a report. With that said, this app can do very basic voice dictated equations. That is worrisome because as time passes and apps are not updated, they become much more prone to glitches and security issues. But there is one stand-out from the rest… Although there are several calculator apps on Android OS that say they have voice dictation, they are all either very outdated or have 0 – 2 reviews. Now, you might be thinking, “Hey! What about apps on the Android Operating System (OS)?” Again, disappointing news. For now, the app is still functioning, but with each iOS update, the future of the Newton app is unsure. However, the last time it was updated was in 2015 – that’s not good news. It has great reviews, and I’ve received awesome feedback from people who have used it.
